About Us & Our Book

Margaret Haynes and Vivienne Doughty met when they were both teaching in Littleport, a Cambridgeshire village on the fen edge. Both took early retirement, and developed second careers as Blue Badge Tourist Guides for Ely and East Anglia. Although neither were native to the area, both were fascinated by local history and legends, and came to love the stark, flat landscape and big skies. Margaret specialised in ghost tours while Vivienne concentrated on freelance writing. They decided to pool their resources and begin third careers as authors.

Haunted Ely was published in 1996. In the following years, Margaret discovered more information on existing ghosts and found some new ones. Vivienne moved to Berkshire and became a full-time writer. When their original publisher retired, they decided to begin fourth careers as publishers, calling themselves The Blue Hand Press. They started in 2003 with a new, improved version of Haunted Ely. Unfortunately, neither author has ever encountered a ghost.
